A very Happy Halloween

We had such a blast for Halloween!  It always seems funny though how much effort and time you put into it and how its just over in the blink of an eye.  I guess its all worth it though so that when she is older she can look through all of our pictures and have a good laugh.  I hope that you all had the very best Halloween.

Pumpkin Patch

We finally were able to go the pumpkin patch.  We went to the Amador Flower Farm and had a blast.  I wish that we were able to do more things together as a family but it is just so hard to get some time off together.

Hanging out with her cousin.

He always manages to make me laugh.

Wish we could have taken this little fella home.

20's Theme Party

Every year a few of our friends do a "Murder Mystery" party and get to dress up.  For the past two years they have asked me to do their hair and makeup.  We always have such a fun time (next year I told them that I am totally doing this with them!)  This year was a 20's theme.  I even got to do my friend's husbands makeup!

Can't wait to see what next years theme will be!

Green Wiggle Dress

We were invited to a friend of ours surprise birthday party so I finally had the opportunity to sew the vintage m5361 pattern.  I had, for some reason envisioned sewing it in a pretty emerald green.  We live in a small town so I try to buy most of my fabric online, since the only fabric store around here is 40 minutes away.   I ordered the kelly green linen from Robert Kaufman.  It looked a bit darker online and was quite shocked to see that it was a bit brighter then what I was hoping fore.  But me being very lazy and short on time decided to use it anyways.  I'm glad I did because I needed a little more color in my wardrobe.

Originally the neckline looked like the picture above but it just made me look like I was drowning in a sea of green.  I was feeling pretty bummed that I just didn't like this dress on me after spending all of that time making it.  So after spending a day thinking about it and looking up other vintage dresses online for inspiration, I decided that it would be pretty easy to change the neckline into a v-neck, since there was a middle seam on both sides.

I was extremely happy with the end result.  It is the best feeling to create something that you actually love to wear.  The only problem was that since it was lined it wrinkled pretty easily.

This is me attempting to do the "cupid dance".  I have never heard of it in my life!  My husband laughed the entire time and said that I looked so dainty up there.  I will take that as a complement!  We had such a good time.  It is always fun to have a night out and shake things up a bit.

We stole a pumpkin to bring home to our daughter.

He is my main squeeze.

Fall Baking

Thank god for pumpkin goodness and baking in the fall.  This is a wonderful recipe that I discovered from Annie's Eats.  If you have not visited her blog yet then you need to start because her recipes are fantastic.  This is just one of the many things that I have made from her site.

This is a lightened up version from her original.  They are both fantastic but I was very excited to see that she made a healthier version so that when I eat 3 a day I don't feel as guilty. Yup, that is cream cheese frosting in case you were wondering. I keep mine in the freezer and take one (or two) to work with me to eat later.

Emmas Halloween Costume

Isn't Halloween the best!  Especially for all of the crafty people out there.  It's a chance to get that creative wheel moving and create something fun.  The best part about it is that its okay to make mistakes because they are only going to wear it on one night (and it will be very dark).

When I was a kid my parents would go all out to create costumes for us.  I think that it made those Halloweens etched into my memories forever and I definitely inherited it from those two.
I tend to lean more towards story book characters for Halloween instead of those from the T.V. shows or movies that she watches.  I like the whole whimsical approach when creating her costumes and adding special details to make her costume truly one of a kind.

I used Butterick 3762 for the dress pattern.  It is a great pattern will all kinds a variations, seriously out of this little packet you could make 6 different dresses.  I am so glad that I have this pattern to add to the stash.  I felt that the dress fit true to size as well (typically dress patterns for her turn out way to big).

I would love to try the scalloped collar next.

This pattern had tucks in the bodice which I have never done before and looked really intimidating, but it is seriously the easiest thing to create.  Ahh I love overcoming my fears.   My first sleeve came out great but the other one was a bit wonky (scroll back to the "mistakes" and "one night" bit).  Anyway, all that matters is that she loves it and she does, and she looks pretty cute wearing it too!  Photos to come of her actually wearing it later.

New Vintage Dress Pattern

I've just revieved a vintage dress pattern that I had ordered in the mail today.   I have never actually used a pattern when I've sewn things in the past, so it will be exciting to give it a go.  I really love how versitile some of these patterns can be.  It was very cheap like $6, which is always a plus for me.  I can't wait to get started.  It is always good to have a fun and new project.

Gardening

Finally got outside to plant our garden.  And let me just say it is not cheap!  Yet we do it every year and then winter comes and destroys everything.  But I guess it does feel rather good to be out in the sun, sweating, and getting dirty.  It is a lot of work though (so I am already one mojito in!)  Between getting dirt out of the compost and mixing it up with fertilizer my arms feel like rubber bands.  It would have been a lot easier had I gotten the wheelbarrow out, but it was being occupied by some very large webs which means very large spiders.  So I was the moron making like 50 trips with the shovel to the compost.

I was very pleased with my pin curl set this morning.  Sometimes it just seems so hit or miss.

We had just gotten our plants and were very excited to start.  Although the excitement fizzled after about 20 minutes when I had remembered how much work it really was.

On our way to our gardening shop my daughter had told me that she wanted a pink princess shovel (she calls it a shuggle) with matching gloves.  I said "Honey, I doubt that they have that at our store."  Well yeah it had just that actually.  So I snatched it up in disbelief!

Here's my cutie pie with her shuggle!

We just planted the basics; tomatoes, cucumber, beans, onions, zucchini, chives, basil, mint, parsley, cilantro,
squash, and tried some watermelons.

....So yeah this whole row are different types of peppers.  Not exactly my first choice but my husband loves peppers...especially pickled peppers.

It doesn't look like much now but after about a month you will see a huge difference.  I am just glad that it is done!  Yay!

We were extremely dirty and I kept feeling like there were little bugs all over me so we headed straight to the shower (there goes my perfectly pin curled hair).   And here we are sitting in our new garden.

It was a pretty great day hanging out with my little one, but as a side effect of working all day I am extremely grumpy and tired and ready for bed...If only my 4 year old was.
